Myopia Management
50% OF THE WORLD POPULATION IS EXPECTED TO HAVE MYOPIA BY 2050!
What is Myopia?
Myopia or nearsightedness, is the inability to see objects clearly at a distance. It is the most common vision disorder among children and young adults. With myopia, the eyes grow too long causing light to focus in front of the retina. In children, the eye may continue to elongate overtime, causing higher levels of myopia.
Risks with increased Myopia
Traditional treatment of nearsightedness includes glasses and/or contacts which have no effect on slowing the progression of myopia. Higher levels of myopia can lead to serious eye problems in adulthood, including glaucoma, cataracts, macular disease, and retinal detachment.
What can be done to slow myopia progression?
Dr. Angelina Cerny specializes in treatments that have proven to slow the progression of myopia in children and young adults. Many options are available including Stellest eyeglass lenses and Orthokeratology (Ortho-K). Schedule with our office and let Dr. Angelina discuss the best treatment plan for your child!
